Relay For Life

Relay For Life

If you weren’t at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Apopka on April 16th – 17th, then you missed out on great live music, cool contests, delicious food, amazing dancers, fun games and more. This year’s theme was “Superheroes Conquering Cancer”, and, even though a first time participant, Digital Risk, LLC was a superhero in the 18 hour event. Digital Risk was a corporate sponsor and the 60 plus team of D-Riskers, family and friends raised over $1,500 through a variety of fund raising efforts such as jean’s day, the football raffle, and selling food at Relay For Life.

There were over 50 teams and 500+ people registered for the overnight event that started at 3 p.m. on Saturday and ended at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Digital Risk’s team was the largest as many D-Riskers came out and supported Relay For Life, whether it was walking the track or helping to sell food. Don Williams was truly Digital Risk’s hero. Even with foot and hip pain, Don stayed up throughout the entire event, helped sell food, walked around the track (even at 4 am), and helped clean everything up when it was all over.

A special thanks goes out to the D-Riskers who helped behind-the-scenes and on the “front lines”. Among the many people who took responsibility and helped more than what they were even asked to do are Donna Mancauskas, Kevin Thome, Cristina Levinson, Amanda McGraw, Veronica Ammann, Carmine Warren, Elisha Abercrombie, Melissa Ferenc, Kurtis Cruz, Penny Crump, Ashley Campbell, Erin Sharifzadeh, Joanne Desir, Laura Kinder, Katherine Gil, Rachel Riley, Nikki Thomas-Exalien and others. Of course, there were many others who helped out and everyone’s efforts are extremely appreciated.
At least $80,000 was raised for Relay For Life of Apopka through various events and fundraisers throughout last year and this year. A final count of all the money will not be available until May 14th. All contributions will help fund the American Cancer Society’s on-going fight against the dreaded disease.
